Bringing over three decades of experience in tax administration, vigilance, and compliance, Chaturvedi was serving as a Member of the CBIC, a role he was elevated to in September.
His previous high-profile assignments include serving as the Principal Director General of Vigilance and Chief Vigilance Officer within the CBIC.
The CBIC is the apex body under the Ministry of Finance’s Department of Revenue, responsible for administering major indirect taxes, including the Goods and Services Tax (GST), customs duties, and central excise. It also oversees trade facilitation, enforcement, and anti-smuggling operations.
The Chairman holds the rank of Secretary to the Government of India and is the cadre-controlling authority for the IRS (Customs & Indirect Taxes).
Chaturvedi’s appointment, which officially begins on December 1, 2025, finalizes a significant leadership transition at the CBIC following the recent completion of tenures by several senior officials.
